An economist by training, he taught economics at the University of New South Wales, Australia from 1979 to 1985. In 1986 he joined the Institute for Development Studies, Sabah. In 1992-1993, he was the Director of Centre for Borneo Studies at Yayasan Sabah. In 1999 he was seconded to Chief Minister’s Department from Institute for Development Studies (Sabah) as Economic Advisor to the Chief Minister and as Advisor, to Ministry of Industrial Development. Presently, he is the Chief Executive Officer, POIC Sabah Sdn. Bhd.
Datuk Dr. Pang has been a researcher with Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) since 1987 and currently serves as a member of Advisory Panel, MIER; Advisor, Polytechnic, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah; Advisor, Socio-Economic Research Committee, Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Malaysia; Member, Anti-Competition Tribunal, Malaysia; Advisory Panel, WWF, Malaysia.
